Stop displaying webpages when opening a new tab in firefox

You have launched Firefox and have opened a New Tab.

But for some reason, it is loading a web page. No matter how many tabs you open it is still loading the web page in every tab. You have navigated to ‘Options’ window, but didn’t  find anything that can fix this.

Annoyed? well I was, when I faced this exact problem. No worries, here is the solution to the problem:

Step – 1: open a new tab, type about:config in the address bar.

Step – 2: click “I’ll be careful, I promise!” button. This will take you to the configuration list.

Step – 3: type browser.newtab.url in the search.

Step – 4: double-click browser.newtab.url

Step – 5: enter your preferred page:

  • Page thumbnails (default) => about:newtab
  • Blank tab => about:blank
  • Built-in Firefox home page => about:home
  • Any other page => full URL to the page

Step – 6: press Ctrl+t  to open a new tab. Your issue is now fixed 🙂
